Master Wáng Qí was born on the 15th of September 1963 in Beijing. He belongs to the Hàn (汉) ethnic group and the 9th generation’s highest successor of the Three Emperor Cannon Fist style.
Master Wáng was born into a family of martial artists. Already at a young age he was passionate about wǔshù. At the age of 5 he begun to practice Sān Huáng Pào Chuí Quán, Three Emperor Cannon Fist kungfu style, under the guidance of his biological father Wángliánmíng (王联铭). Later on he had the honour to be able to acquire knowledge of this style (mainly of weapons) from the great ancestor Dǒng Yīng Jùn (董英俊) (1911-1996) a both excellent and honoured master in Běijīng who belonged to the 7th generation of Great Masters and was a great expert on wielding the Dà Qiāng, great lance which made him earn the name Dàqiāngdǒng (大枪董), Great Lance Dǒng.
At the age of 20, master Wáng Qí won first place in the Chinese national traditional wǔshù championship held in Běijīng in both Sanda and Taolu categories. He has since then fully devoted himself to the study of traditional wǔshù. Throughout more than 20 years he delved into the sacred knowledge of the most renowned masters of that period such as Zhāng kǎi (张凯), Dǒnghóngqí (董红旗), Wángmèngyuè (王梦月), Xíng zhào lù (刑兆录), Lǐbǐngyáo (李丙尧), Wángjǐnglǐ (王景理), Zhāngzōngyì (张宗义) y Liúlìxǐ (刘立喜).

Furthermore, master Yè Shùlín (叶树林) deserves a special mention due to the fact that he taught master Wáng extensive versions of a close combat art known as Shuāijiāo (摔跤).
Ān yǒng xìng (安永兴), a very prominent master from Běijīng carried out a performance evaluation on master Wáng. He concluded that master Wáng Qí had succeeded in giving form to his hard, rounded and solid style, which made him become the highest level master among all 9th generation of the Three Emperor Cannon Fist kungfu style masters.
Master Wáng holds not only the style’s highest performance rank, but also wǔshù’s “special” moral tradition, which is reflected by his characteristic open and sincere personality. He deeply respects his older masters and any other Wǔgōng masters. Not only has he never taken any economic profit in exchange of transmitting his teachings, but he has even invested his own resources to help his students, who adore and admire him. The praise received by master Wáng Qí does not only come from his students, but also from the general public who reverence his conduct as a master and as a human being.
In his role as highest leading master of the style’s 9th generation, he has always promoted traditional culture and has particularly made efforts towards developing and spreading the Three Emperor Cannon Fist’s heritage, both in exhibitions and competitions where he has always encouraged his students to actively participate in order to make traditional wǔshù better known.
